Save Lives Change Lives
According to The Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, adolescent parenthood is associated with a range of adverse outcomes for young mothers, including mental health problems such as depression, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Teen mothers are also more likely to be impoverished and reside in communities and families that are socially and economically disadvantaged. These circumstances can adversely affect maternal mental health, parenting, and behavior outcomes for their children
Comprehensive care for both adolescent parents and their children are provided in the Home of Serenity. A few details of care included are case management, social work, mental health, and medical care. The interdisciplinary team assists adolescent-headed families in completing high school and to become career/job ready.
